READ | Pre-season Top10
1 – McMaster (1-0) : WIN, 50-9 vs Guelph.
McMaster looked every bit the defending champ they are in an impressive first week win vs Guelph. HEC Crigthon favorite Quinlan picked up where he left off with a 248yds, 3TD and 112 running yards performance. UP NEXT: at Waterloo (0-1)
2 – Calgary (1-0): WIN 37-21 vs Regina.
The Dinos put up a strong showing versus a very good Regina team. Strong on offense and on defense, Blake Neil’s team showed they are the team to beat in CanWest this year. UP NEXT: vs Alberta (0-1)
3 – Laval (1-0): WIN 33-15 vs McGill.
Even though they did not put up a lopsided win versus McGill like many expected, Laval is still the top team in the Q, for now. Very solid on defense and special teams, they looked a bit shaky on offense under first year starting QB Tristan Grenon. UP NEXT: at Bishops (0-1)
4 - Montréal (1-0): WIN 38-14 vs Sherbrooke.
The Carabins have established themselves as a top contender with their week 1 dismantling of the Vert & Or. A career performance by 5th year QB Alex Ndeau-Piuze has got the Carabins looking every bit like the team they pretend to be. Their defense looked very solid as it limited the usually powerful Sherbrooke offense to a total of 228 yards. UP NEXT: vs Concordia (1-0)
5 – Western (1-0): WIN 54-10 vs Windsor.
No Riva, no Varga, no problem for the high powered 2012 Mustangs offense. 658 yards of total offense is no easy task to accomplish; look for the Sanvido brothers (RB/WR) to have a big impact this year (313 all prupose yards & 5TDs in win). UP NEXT: vs Toronto (1-0)
6 – Manitoba (1-0): WIN 31-24 vs UBC.
Impressive win at Vancouver in a hard fought battle against 2011 division finalist UBC. RB Kienan LaFrance goes for 165yards and 2TD in win. Another real test coming up next week in matchup against Saskatchewan. UP NEXT: vs Saskatechewan (1-0)
7– Queens (1-0) : WIN 48-13 vs York.
A balanced offensive performance highlighted by the play of RB Ryan Grandberg (20 runs, 149yds, 3TD) has got the Gaels putting up big numbers. They need to better take care of the football moving forward. UP NEXT: at Laurier (0-1)
8 – Acadia (0-0) Did not play.
Top ranked AUS team still deserves a spot in top 10 despite not having started their season yet. UP NEXT: vs St-Mary’s (0-0)
9 – Saskatchewan (1-0) WIN 32-0 vs Alberta.
A shutout is always impressive in CIS football. I’m still not convinced their offense has got what it takes for the Huskies to be considered part of the elite in CanWest. UP NEXT: at Manitoba (1-0)
10 – Windsor (1-0) WIN 63-18 vs Ottawa.
A nation’s best performance by QB Austin Kennedy (482yds, 6TD) has got the Lancers offense looking strong. Look for 5th year veteran WR Jordan Berscacin to have a monster 2012 season in this Joe Dent offensive system. UP NEXT: vs Guelph (0-1)
**
OFF MVP – Windsor Lancers Austin Kennedy goes 31 of 41 for 482 yards and 6 TDs in win. Impressive.
DEF MVP - McMaster LB/DE Ben D’Aguilar records 5 tackles, 3sacks, 3 tackles for loss and 1 pass break-up in win vs Guelph.
Special Teams – Boris Bédé saves the day for the Laval Rouge et Or as he goes 5 for 5 on Field Goals and 36 yards average on 11 punts in win vs McGill.
